Free & Private Online Browser Utility

Universal Image Converter: JPG PNG WebP

Convert image files directly in your web browser across supported image types. The tool accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, SVG, GIF, BMP, ICO, and AVIF input files (TIFF is not supported by standard browser decoders). All conversion steps happen in your device RAM, allowing single-file conversions or multi-file batch processing with ZIP downloads.

How to use

  1. Step 1: Select image files to convert

Drag and drop one or more images into the conversion area or click to open your file picker. The converter accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, SVG, GIF, BMP, ICO, and AVIF files.

  2. Step 2: Pick output format and quality

Select JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, or ICO from the format list. For JPG and WebP, adjust the quality slider between 10% and 100%.

  3. Step 3: Choose a background color for transparency

If your input file has transparency and you are exporting to JPG or BMP, choose a solid background fill color (defaults to white #ffffff).

  4. Step 4: Convert and save results

Click Convert All to process the queue in local memory. Download individual converted files or click Download All (ZIP) to get all files in one zip archive.

Options explained

Target Format: JPG / JPEG

Standard lossy format for everyday photographs. Transparent portions receive the solid background matte fill you specify because JPEG files do not contain an alpha transparency channel.

When to use: Use for photographs, blog images, and systems that require standard JPEG files.

Target Format: PNG

Lossless image format that preserves 32-bit RGBA pixel data (color type 6, 8-bit depth) and full 8-bit alpha transparency.

When to use: Use for screenshots, diagrams, logos, and graphics that need transparent backgrounds.

Target Format: WebP

Modern web image format supporting both lossy compression and alpha transparency.

When to use: Use for web publishing where smaller download sizes help page load times.

Target Format: BMP

Uncompressed 24-bit Windows bitmap file written using direct binary DataView encoding in memory.

When to use: Use for legacy desktop software or systems requiring uncompressed bitmaps.

Target Format: ICO

Generates a 64x64 pixel favicon container using Microsoft Icon format headers.

When to use: Use when creating favicon.ico files for websites and web applications.

Background Matte Color Picker

Sets the solid fill color applied behind transparent pixels when converting to formats that lack transparency (JPG and BMP). Defaults to white (#ffffff).

When to use: Use when converting transparent PNG or SVG graphics to JPG to prevent unexpected dark backgrounds.

Worked example

Input: Input photograph (sample-photo.jpg measuring 1376x768 pixels and 450,169 bytes in file weight)

Output: Transcoded 450,169-byte sample photograph into WebP at quality 0.85 producing 40,772 bytes (39.8 KB), and into 32-bit RGBA PNG producing 1,387,124 bytes (1,354.6 KB)

Example from repository test; results depend on your source file dimensions and selected target format.

Tips & limits

  • Animated GIF files convert only their first frame when drawn to canvas; multi-frame animation is not kept.
  • TIFF input is not supported because standard web browser HTML5 Image elements cannot decode TIFF files.
  • Converting from JPG to PNG places pixel data in a lossless file, but cannot restore detail discarded when the original JPG was saved.
  • When converting transparent images to JPG, preview your background color choice so logos remain visible against the background fill.
  • For sequential batch throughput numbers across multi-photo queues, see the measured benchmark timings on the Image Resizer utility.

Common problems

A transparent background turned solid white after converting to JPG

JPEG files do not support transparency. Transparent portions receive the solid background matte fill you specify. Pick PNG or WebP output if your design depends on transparency.

An animated GIF does not animate after conversion

Standard browser 2D canvas drawing reads only the first frame of an animated GIF. Multi-frame animations are not preserved.

A TIFF file fails to upload or convert

TIFF is not supported by standard web browser decoders. Convert TIFF files to PNG or JPEG before loading them into this tool.

The converted PNG file is larger in bytes than the input JPG

PNG stores uncompressed 32-bit RGBA pixel data losslessly, which requires more bytes than lossy JPG compression (expanding to 1,387,124 bytes in our test). This is normal behavior for photographic images.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Which input formats are supported by this converter?

In our browser tests, the converter accepted JPG, PNG, WebP, SVG, GIF, BMP, ICO, and AVIF input files. TIFF files are not supported because web browser engines do not decode TIFF format natively. Support for BMP and ICO can vary depending on browser version and file structure.

What happens to transparent pixels when converting to JPG?

Because JPEG format lacks transparency support, the canvas fills the background with your chosen color (default white #ffffff) before drawing the image. All transparent regions become solid color.

Does converting an image to PNG improve its visual detail?

No. Converting an existing lossy picture to PNG places its current pixel values inside a lossless container. This avoids further quality loss on future saves, but it cannot recreate sharpness or detail that was discarded when the original file was compressed.

Can I convert animated GIF files with this tool?

When you upload an animated GIF, the browser canvas draws only the initial frame. The output file will contain that single still frame rather than the full animation.

Are my files uploaded to an external server?

No. The entire conversion process executes locally inside your web browser memory. Your files are never sent across the network.

Can I convert multiple photos in a single batch?

Yes. Select or drop multiple images at once. The converter processes files sequentially in local memory and offers a Download All (ZIP) button to save the entire set.

Files never leave your device; calculations and transformations happen locally.
